Frequently Asked Questions

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in which hair thin sterile needles are placed gently into the body at specific acupuncture points. By needling these points, the nervous system is stimulated into releasing chemicals that help reduce pain, increase circulation and decrease inflammation.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?
No, acupuncture should not hurt. Often, there is no sensation at all when the needles are places in the body. Some of the sensations you may feel during an acupuncture treatment are warmth, tingling or aching along the meridians or around the acupuncture points. Depending on the type of treatment that is needed, when a session is complete you will either feel extremely relaxed or invigorated.

Is Acupuncture Safe?
Acupuncture has been practiced for thousands of years on millions of people all over the world. When performed correctly by a licensed practitioner, acupuncture is extremely safe.

How many sessions will I need in order to find relief or see results?
This is unique to the individual and varies from patient to patient. For most chronic conditions, 4-6 treatments on a weekly basis tend to offer the best outcome. Some people notice an immediate improvement in their health while for others acupuncture tends to have a cumulative effect over several sessions.
